Setup Genius vs Note Apps
Setup Genius vs Generic Note Apps (Notion, Evernote, Apple Notes)
Notion, Evernote and the built-in notes app are the step after paper for many racers: searchable, synced, shareable. They are still free text, so every setup is a different shape and nothing can be compared or calculated. Setup Genius gives you the same convenience with fields that understand motorsport: per-corner geometry, tyre identity, session structure and an assistant that can reason about the numbers.
| Capability | Note apps | Setup Genius |
|---|---|---|
| Free text and photos | Excellent | Yes, per setup |
| Structured per-corner fields | Manual tables at best | Built in |
| Tyre bank with lap counts | No | Yes |
| Session and event hierarchy | Folders you maintain | Built in |
| Compare two setups field by field | No | Yes |
| Racing calculators | No | Yes |
| AI with setup knowledge and your history | Generic AI at best | Apex |
| Cost | Free to ~$10/month | Free to $99/month |
The structure problem
The value of a setup record is in comparison. A note that says 'went to 650 rear springs, felt better' cannot be lined up against the other fifteen rear spring changes you made this year. Setup Genius stores the value in a field, so the comparison is a filter, not an archaeology project.
What note apps still do well
Long-form debriefs, sketches and to-do lists. Setup Genius has a notes field on every setup for the debrief, and the rest of the team documentation can live wherever you like.
Frequently asked questions
Can I keep using my note app alongside Setup Genius?
Of course. Many teams keep procedures and checklists in a note app and the setup data in Setup Genius, with the setup link pasted into the note.
Does Setup Genius have free text?
Yes. Every setup, session and vehicle has notes, and attachments accept photos and documents.
Is there an offline mode?
Setup Genius is a web app and needs a connection to save. It works on any phone, tablet or laptop browser without installation.
