Setup Management for Formula and Open-Wheel Racers

Formula Ford, Formula Vee, F4, F3 and historic open-wheelers offer more adjustment than any other club category: ride height to the millimetre, spring and bar changes in minutes, wing angles, gear ratios and damper clicks. That makes a complete setup record essential, because a car with forty adjustable parameters cannot be carried in anyone's head. Setup Genius templates cover the full open-wheel sheet, and the calculators handle gearing, spring rates and roll centres.

Managing a large setup sheet

The challenge with an open-wheeler is not any single setting but the interactions between forty of them. Setup Genius's change summary shows exactly what moved between sessions, so when the car improves you know which of the three changes did it. Copying the previous setup and editing it keeps entry time short even with a long sheet.

Track-specific gearing and aero

Open-wheel cars change gears and wings per circuit. Recording the ratios and wing settings against each track means the next visit starts from the right gearing, and the gear calculator confirms top speed before the car leaves the workshop.

Frequently asked questions

Can I track wing angle and gurney flaps?

Yes. Add aero fields to the vehicle template: front and rear wing angles, gurney sizes and any adjustable elements.

Does Apex understand aero cars?

Yes. It covers aero balance, rake sensitivity and the interaction between ride height and downforce, and it uses your recorded values when answering.

Historic formula cars have no adjustable aero. Is it still useful?

Very. Mechanical setup on a historic car has just as many variables, and the gearing and spring calculators apply directly.
